How to improve your reading speed? There seems to be so much demanding attention these days, that grabbing a few minutes to read an article or an ebook seems to be more and more difficult.
But surely, improving your reading speed would be one of the most productive acts of self improvement that you could do? After all, it's not like you've got to go from not reading at all to rocket speed! If you're reading this, you're already doing the basics - the question is: How fast can we read? And how much improvement in reading speed is possible in a relatively short period of time.
Scouring the net, there's plenty of advice out there - and some novel solutions. But where to start?
I found this joke about rapid reading: "I have been speed reading War and Peace for ten minutes, ... It is about Russia." and also discovered:
- a common reading speed is only 200 words per minute
- comprehension at that speed is commonly only 60%
- 1% of us can read at 1000 words per minute!
- and comprehension tends to increase with reading speed.
- although you can get good short term improvements in reading speed from attending live seminars, the best long term improvements in reading speed comes from home study with a variety of reading exercises.
So now, I'm off to find something that can give me a speed reading boost in a month. Seems possible.
